The Castell de Sant Joan is located 15 minutes by car and approximately 45 minutes walk from Cavall de Mar. It is located at the top of Turó de Sant Joan.
Direction: Carrer Cardenal Vidal y Barraquer s/n, Blanes.
It is a fortification located at the top of Cerro San Juan in Blanes. From there, at an altitude of 180 meters, you can see a view of the city and the Selva region and, to the south, on clear days, you can see the silhouette of Mount Montjuic in Barcelona.
It was built by order of Grau de Cabrera in the mid-13th century. Although there is no doubt that in previous times a fortification already existed. The watchtower dates back to the 16th century, since corsairs and Barbary piracy in the Mediterranean demanded the highest place to better command the view and watch out for possible enemies. Today Sant Joan has become an excellent viewpoint from which to observe Blanes in its entirety, and a beautiful view of the Mediterranean.
